Agrológica que promovió y editó el Gobierno del Principado de Asturias a través de la Consejería de Medio Rural y Pesca (Área de Evaluación de Recursos Agrarios de los Servicios de Modernización y Fomento Asociativo) es la culminación del proceso de \u201cCaracterización del Uso Agrario Potencial del Suelo del País Asturiano\u201d.La caracterización del uso agrario del suelo fue una parte importante del Programa de Evaluación de Recursos Agrarios puesto en marcha en el año 1984 por la Dirección General de la Producción Agraria del Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación. Este programa tenía como finalidad poner las bases de la futura planificación agraria y la ordenación de los cultivos y aprovechamientos; y contribuía, por lo tanto, a definir y posibilitar el establecimiento de prioridades en las acciones de mejora de infraestructuras (mejora de la red viaria rural, evaluación del impacto ambiental de las obras a realizar en el medio rural o suburbano, defensa contra la erosión, equipamiento básico de las comunidades rurales, regadío, etc.) y de la productividad de los capitales de explotación, para optimizar el ajuste oferta \u2013 demanda garantizando la conservación y mejora de los recursos básicos (clima, suelo, vegetación, ganado) y el desarrollo de las explotaciones. En definitiva, lo que hoy denominamos desarrollo rural sostenible.El problema de la racionalización de la producción, de su ordenación, se retrotrae al del conocimiento de los condicionamientos y limitaciones que la actividad (agraria, agrícola, ganadera y forestal) impone a los factores de producción en cada comarca, municipio, parroquia o unidad de explotación.La adquisición de dicho conocimiento (uno de los principales objetivos del Mapa de Clases de Capacidad Agrológica) se revela como una de las acciones de mayor trascendencia a emprender con vistas a la necesaria ordenación que permita una utilización sostenible de los recursos, puesto que una explotación abusiva e irracional de éstos es la causa de la degradación y destrucción de los mismos.El citado programa tenía y tiene como objetivo la caracterización de los recursos básicos de la actividad agraria mediante la puesta en marcha, metodológica y práctica, de una evaluación dinámica de los factores: clima, suelo, vegetación, ganado y sistemas de producción.La fase final del mismo proponía las actuaciones en los sistemas de producción, contemplando las valoraciones o evaluaciones agrarias comarcales o zonales (modelos de ordenación productiva, propuestas de uso futuro).La presente capa de información geográfica tiene asociada una base de datos que organiza la infomación en dos campos principales:Clase: Informa acerca del GRADO DE LIMITACIÓN que afecta al suelo. El método de Clases Agrológicas, desarrollado para el conjunto de Asturias a lo largo de las últimas dos décadas, se fundamenta en el método de evaluación denominado Land Capability Classification.El método define ocho clases agrológicas con limitaciones de utilización crecientes fundamentadas en propiedades extrínsecas de los suelos, desde la Clase I (sin limitaciones de uso - no ha sido definida en Asturias) hasta la Clase VIII (limitaciones máximas que excluyen usos productivos).Subclase: La Subclase Agrológica se caracteriza por una letra como subíndice que nos indica del TIPO DE LIMITACIÓN, reconociéndose cuatro tipos de limitaciones distintas:Riesgo de erosión .............................................Subclase \"e\"Encharcamiento e inundación ..........................
